Parliamentary reporter 

  • Covered federal politics through one of its busiest periods, including the COVID-19 pandemic, war in Ukraine, Emergencies Act and subsequent inquiry, as well as the 2021 election. 

  • Delivered a wide variety of enterprise stories on topics as diverse as the Senate and electric vehicle manufacturing.

  • Developed a deep network of sources on Parliament Hill.

  • Used access requests, data projects and other methods to deliver regular front-page stories.  
     

CBC Ottawa

Web writer - Jan. 2018 – Present

  • Covered stories in CBC's local newsroom.

  • Quickly adapted to a three-platform environment, learning how to use audio and video editing tools.

  • Used a variety of digital tools to add depth to web stories.

  • Edited and wrote multiple stories per day.

Metro Ottawa

Senior Reporter and Managing Editor , Oct. 2016 to Nov. 2017

 

  • Covered Parliament Hill and federal politics as member of the Parliamentary Press Gallery, developing a unique focus for Metro reflecting the paper's audience.

  • Used Access to Information requests effectively to find many original stories.

  • Created ongoing data projects that spawned regular features for Metro.

  • Was promoted to managing editor and oversaw a staff and freelance writers, while continuing to break important stories.

  • Wrote up to four stories each day, while also editing all of the content in Metro's local section.

  • Managed every aspect of the newsroom from front page decisions, hiring and story assignment. 

 

 

Metro Edmonton

Senior Reporter, Aug. 2012 to Oct. 2016

  • Covered the provincial legislature and Edmonton City Hall simultaneously, breaking stories on both beats that my competition was left to follow.

  • Jumped in on weekends and evenings for breaking news at a moments notice to ensure Metro remained competitive.

  • Oversaw the newsroom during the Fort McMurray fire leading to Metro’s first National Newspaper Award nomination.

  • Made weekly television panel appearances helping to grow Metro’s brand.

Staff Writer, June 2007 to Aug. 2012

 

  • Covered courts, crime, provincial and municipal politics, as well as the military, getting a solid background in all areas.

  • Consistently found unique and original stories that helped the twice-weekly paper stand out in the province.
